Bedford Spring Fours and Small Boats Head
There were four entries from the Senior Men’s Competitive squad for Bedford Spring Fours and Small Boats Head on the 2nd April, a day of racing which started cloudy but brightened in the afternoon.
There was a very quick stream which resulted in tricky marshalling manoeuvres for coxes and rowers. Jacqui Round (pictured below), the men’s competitive squad co-captain, coxed two fours throughout the day, her first time coxing since 1997!
It was a cloudy start for the two boats in division one at 9AM. First up a coxed four of Luke, Liam, Dean and Ian and coxed by Jacqui; this was Luke’s first race and some valuable race experience was gained by all. Next the coxless sweep four of Robert Stirling (Men’s Competitive Squad co-captain), Dan, Mark, and Brad; they placed 2nd in their category finishing 47s ahead of the third position with a great overtook midway along the 2km course.
The sun was waiting for the two boats entered into division five in the afternoon. The open 4+ category saw Luke, Liam, Brandon and Paul (below, left) coxed by Jacqui place 6th out of 7, just 39s behind Leicester. Last to race in the open double category were Rob and Brad (below, right) who finished 3rd out of nine, 7s seconds ahead of Peterborough.
Next up, Master’s and Men’s crews head to Cambridge for the Head of the Cam on the 22nd April!
