27/03/2010 Support your Club at the Head of the River Race - London

The rowing worlds annual pilgrimage to the Thames to race in Eights is on the 27th March this year. The Head is a 7.5Km race, held over the Boat Race course but is raced in the opposite direction to the Boat Race, starting at Chiswick Bridge and racing to Putney with the ebb tide. We have a St Neots crew entered this year so why not make a day of it and come down and support the crew as they race past. It's a great spectacle with 400 Eights racing including crews containing international rowers.

St Neots will be boating from Furnival Gardens near Hammersmith Bridge which is a great place to watch the race from as the crews wind up for the sprint to the finish line with plenty of pubs to hand

17/04/2010 NEW ROWERS WANTED IN ST NEOTS!

St Neots Rowing Club is organising a new 10 week course for adults who want to try their hand at rowing.

The Senior Try Rowing Course, aimed at men and women aged 18 and over, will take place on consecutive Saturday afternoons, from 4 - 6 pm, starting on 17 April 2010. Participants will be shown the club facilities, receive a safety briefing and learn how to use an indoor rowing machine (ergo) correctly. They will then get straight out onto the River Ouse, first in the Club’s fun virus boats, before moving on to form crews in the larger boats.

Club Captain Ed Porteus said:

“This is a great chance for people to come down to the Club and see what rowing is all about. Last year’s course was really successful and many of those who joined then have already been racing in competitions this winter. Once you get hooked, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in competitive rowing, not least at our own Regatta in July. But this course is also for those who just want to try their hand at a new sport and get involved in the social side of the Club.”

There will be a charge of £60 for the course, which will be offset against the £180 annual rowing membership for those who decide to join the Club. This cost provides insurance and helps towards coaching and equipment costs. Ideally participants will be confident swimmers, but life jackets can be provided if necessary.

Anyone interested in taking part should email Ed Porteus, Club Captain (clubcaptain@stneotsrc.co.uk) by 10 April. There will be a maximum of 16 places available.

If you would like to attend any of the events listed above, contact the Social Committee at social@stneotsrc.co.uk.
