Crew training |
- Training times are set by the Rowing Committee and Coaches, taking equipment availability into account
- The Coaches are volunteers willing to share their knowledge and experience of rowing
- More experienced rowers are expected to help with the development of less experienced rowers
- All rowers are expected to make their availability known and to communicate this to the Coaches
- Competitive rowing requires technique, strength, stamina and commitment
- During the winter night-time outings on the river are restricted to coxed boats only, competent crews and appropriate conditions; lights must be used
- Between September and March circuit training is run at Bushmead School on Tuesday evenings
- Rowers should always bring a change of kit and drinking water to each session at the Club
- Weekend training, river conditions permitting, will be on the water at agreed times
- Adequate layers of clothing should be worn during the winter months
- Periodic ergo tests are undergone to assess progress
- Rowers should ensure that they adequately warm up before and stretch down after training, to minimise the risk of injuries

Racing
- All rowers wishing to compete must obtain annual membership from British Rowing
- Entries for races will be made by the Captain or coaches; no member may enter themselves for any event without obtaining the agreement of the Captain
- Racing at Regattas generally takes place from late April to early September; with the long distance Head races between late September to early April.
- All rowers are expected to de-rig, trailer load and unload, and re-rig boats after each event
- Each race incurs a ‘seat’ cost which can range between £10 and £12 and rowers are expected to keep their racing account in credit to cover these costs to ensure their race entries – details on noticeboard
- Trailer towing fees are collected for each event, according to the locality, to cover fuel costs.
Equipment
- Damage to equipment of any sort, including the building, must be reported to the Captain or Coaches immediately
- Equipment will be allocated by the Coaches with agreement of the Captain
- There are a limited number of sculling racks available in the boathouse for an annual cost. Owners should also arrange their own insurance cover
- Rowers are expected to help out with repair and maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure, including (but not limited to) assistance where possible during Club Work Days (usually 2x a year)
